2017 chevrolet trax4/20/2023 ![]() The trunk is still a bit small it has a 19-cubic foot capacity which is 5 less than our current 2nd generation Kia Soul’s, and the rear seats still don’t fold completely flat. ![]() As good as the new Trax is with its user-friendly upgrades, the little engine is just barely sufficient and it buzzes a bit too loudly now perhaps accentuated, ironically, by the better cabin insulation. Our Summit White colored test unit was a front-wheel drive only, which I prefer as I wouldn’t need the AWD system that weighs down the carried over 1.4-liter turbo engine with roughly an additional 145 pounds. The key changes are the new appealing face with the proportioned dual-port grille, new bumpers on both ends, new 18-inch alloys wrapped with P215/55R18 95H Continental PremiumContact 2 tires, new sculpted taillamps with LED signature lighting, new instrument cluster is thankfully analog backed up by an informative digital driver information center, new dashboard with chrome accents, smart key with start/stop ignition, and a new, sharp, good sounding MyLink 7-inch center infotainment system with rear camera. The cabin is so much more refined, and the fit-and-finish is so much better that I can hear the not-so-appealing engine noise. The new interior is incomparable to the old one from design to materials used. Aside from that, the new Trax LT is considerably better, it looks quite good on the outside and even better where it counts more inside. I still have my two lone qualms though: I wish Chevrolet used the more powerful version of the same 1.4-liter turbocharged engine, and I had hoped that the new projector headlights had either LED or HID instead of halogen. The culmination of all the small improvements makes the Trax the little compact crossover that it should have been from the start. For 2017, Chevrolet offers blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision alert, and lane-departure warning.Yet, once again, she was right. Trax rated Good in all tests performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, including the difficult small overlap frontal impact.īoth the driver and front passenger get knee airbags. Crash-testing by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration resulted in a five-star overall rating. ![]() For 2017, Trax adds Apple Car Play and Android Auto compatibility to its MyLink infotainment system. Contrast stitching is available for the dashboard, for a look that's more traditional tone. Hard plastic components trim the cabin for an effect that looks practical and utilitarian. Ride/handling is typical for the Trax's class, meaning controlled and comfortable, if lacking in sportiness. In between, the Trax engine strains toward highway speeds, and passing or merging requires quite a bit of free space.Įlectric power steering responds well and ensures easy maneuverability. Takeoffs are comparatively swift, and the deep-overdrive top gear delivers relaxed cruising, as well as satisfying fuel economy. ![]() The 6-speed automatic transmission has a wide gear-ratio range. The turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine produces 138 horsepower, along with 148 pound-feet of torque starting at a low 1850 rpm. A fifth can squeeze in, if all are on the small side. Chevrolet stylists chose a safe course, emphasizing squarer body lines, in contrast to Buick's sweeping curves.įour adults actually fit into the Trax's versatile, spacious interior. Nothing other than front doors are shared with the Buick Encore, and the design of the Trax is not as expressive as that of the Encore. Trax is the lowest-priced all-wheel-drive model offered by General Motors and is Chevrolet's smallest crossover. The Buick Encore costs more than the Chevrolet Trax, and offers more amenities as well as a more upscale appearance. Nothing has changed in the Trax's engineering, however. The front end of the 2017 Chevrolet Trax has adopted the appearance of other Chevrolet vehicles, and the interior has been updated, substituting a flowing dashboard with analog instruments for the previous motorcycle-inspired digital display. Trax debuted as a 2015 model and is a close cousin to the Buick Encore, both built upon the foundation of the subcompact Sonic. The tiny Chevrolet Trax crossover, earns an updating for the 2017 model year.
